Provider Practice: Safety and Medical Error Prevention, Florida

The learning activity reviews medical errors, root cause analysis process, impacts of medical errors, prevention and reduction of errors, common misdiagnosed conditions, and other important considerations for safety.

After completing this learning activity, the participant should be able to:

• Indicate the impacts of medical errors on patient care and outcomes.
• Recall the root case analysis process.
• Identify strategies to prevent and reduce medical errors and improve safety.
• Recognize factors associated with commonly misdiagnosed conditions.

Florida Board of Medicine:
Completion of two hours of continuing medical education relating to prevention of medical errors which includes a study of root cause analysis, error reduction and prevention, and patient safety, and which is approved by any state or federal government agency, or nationally affiliated professional association, or any provider of Category I or II American Medical Association Continuing Medical Education.
