Course Objectives

After completing this continuing education/professional development activity, the participant will have a strategy for passing a
post-test on the topic of perinatal bereavement. Specifically, the participant will be able to:

  • Analyze various types of perinatal loss.
  • Formulate an individualized plan of care that supports the unique traditions and cultures of each family experiencing loss.
  • Examine strategies to support parents and families through the process of grief in the perinatal period.
  • Investigate how perinatal palliative care may support families to maximize the quality of life and comfort for newborns with life limiting conditions.
  • Recognize the need for health care professionals to participate in debriefing and self-care
    strategies.
