This is a three-part infection control course which meets the requirements for New York.
Part 1: Elements I and II
Element I: Healthcare professionals must adhere to scientifically accepted principles and practices of infection control. These measures should be used across all healthcare settings where the professional oversees and monitors all personnel for whom they are responsible.
Element II: Focuses on the modes and mechanisms of transmission of pathogenic organisms in the healthcare setting and outlines strategies for their prevention and control.
Part 2: Elements III and IV
Element III: Covers the use of engineering and work practice controls to minimize patient and healthcare worker exposure to infectious materials in all healthcare settings.
Element IV: Discusses the selection and use of barriers and personal protective equipment to prevent patient and healthcare worker contact with infectious materials.
Part 3: Elements V, VI, and VII
Element V: Addresses the creation and maintenance of a safe patient care environment in all healthcare settings through the application of infection control principles and practices for cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization.
Element VI: Covers the prevention and control of infectious and communicable diseases in healthcare workers.
Element VII: Provides education and awareness about sepsis.
