Diversity is an important factor in every business structure and has been shown to improve competitiveness in the marketplace. Organizations should continually analyze the diversity of their workplaces and strive to ensure inclusivity. In order to reach their greatest potential, businesses should understand diversity and embrace it at all levels of operation. Please note: This continuing education/professional development activity was planned for nurses, physicians, physician assistants and other health care professionals who would like to know more about guidelines for an inclusive workplace. Course Objectives

After completing this continuing education/professional development activity, the participant will have a strategy for recognizing the impact of levels of diversity and their impact on attitudes, values and beliefs.

  • Specifically, the participant will be able to:

  • Identify the advantages of a diverse workplace and how it can enhance teamwork and improve company results.
  • List the components of a workplace diversity and discrimination policy.
  • Recognize the practices that result in inclusive workplace environment.
  • Explain the benefits of workplace diversity.
  • Identify populations at risk for limited health literacy.
  • Indicate tools and techniques for improving patient-provider interactions.
  • Select techniques for raising a person’s awareness and managing their unconscious bias.
  • State how microaggressions affect the healthcare industry.
